It has been almost 2 weeks since surgery. Up until Saturday afternoon I was feeling good. My vision had been slowly improving, and I was feeling stronger, able to do more. I don't know if I over did or what, but ... sometime during a nap something went wrong. When I woke up, vision in my left eye was very blurry. I wasn't terribly worried as I had been told things could still get worse before they got better, but I was concerned. Here is an example of what I see left eye only:
Yep, somewhere in there is a room and stuff.
At my doctor's appointment today, the doctor found that there has been a hemorrhage in my eye. Some in front of the retina, some behind. This is rare, particularly given the time since surgery, but not unheard of. The remedy at this point is rest. I am back to restricted activity, no lifting (< 25 lbs.), and lots of rest. The doctor wants to give my eye sometime to clear normally before we do anything further.
So, I will rest; try not to do much and spend some time with my eyes closed. Thanks for reading.

To See
Current Status:
I am recovering from surgery that repaired a small retinal detachment in my left eye. The doctor says the surgery went very well, and my recovery so far is good. I have another follow-up on Monday morning. Here is what my eye looks like today:
Here is a run down of the past few days:
A little over a week ago (Wednesday) I noticed some flashes of light in the periphery of my left vision. Blinks or rapid eye movement would trigger a flash. Over the next couple of days I noticed other changes. I have always had some swirly semi-transparent floaters in my vision, but these new ones were dark and more persistent. So, Saturday and Sunday I was not feeling well with headache and some nausea. Whether or not that was directly related to what was going on in my eye or not I don't know. I had done some reading, and knew that I was experiencing some vitreous detachment, a fairly normal process, but with risks.
By Sunday evening, the Nothing had appeared.
In the lower right quadrant of my left field of view was a semi-circular area of nothing. It was easy to miss at first, that area over-laps with the right field of view. But when I closed my eyes there was a blob there, a lightning edged hole or a bright semi-circle that slowly faded to black.
I went to work Monday and called around to make an appointment with an ophthalmologist. My optometrist referred me to Dr Moffet, a retinal specialist, who was able to see me that afternoon. After a brief exam I found myself scheduled for surgery the next day. This was a good thing, because the Nothing was growing.
Like I said, the doctor was/is pleased with how the surgery went, and with my recovery so far. It will be several more days before I know if there will be long term issues (shouldn't be) or until I can return to work/full activity. So far, the Nothing has been vanquished.
I am greatful for all the good thoughts and prayers on my behalf, the skill and faith of my doctor and priesthood blessings. I am greatful to see.
